L2 initially operated in the nuclear sector but has since expanded into oil/gas and other high hazard industries, all of which share the common issue of significant regulatory requirements.

Nuclear

All of our key offerings are provided across the entire lifecycle of the nuclear fuel cycle from engineering, manufacturing, construction, fuel fabrication, operations, decommissioning, waste management and site restoration.

In the Nuclear sector, we provide advice and consultancy to nuclear developers, nuclear operators, reactor vendors, contractors, manufacturers and larger consultancies.

L2 helps our Customers meet the nuclear industry regulatory requirements throughout the lifecycle of their nuclear projects, driven by the nuclear safety regulator (Office for Nuclear Regulator) and environmental protection regulators (Environment Agency, Scottish Environmental Protection Agency or Natural Resources Wales). L2 is also has extensive experience in dealing with other regulators for the nuclear industry such as Marine Maritime Organisation, Local Flood Authorities, COMAH Competent Authority and UK government departments such as Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

Our strength lies in our nuclear professionals who have extensive experience in the delivery of the technically complex projects all areas of the nuclear fuel cycle both in the UK and internationally.

Oil and Gas

We provide advice and consultancy in the delivery of the technically challenging projects in the UK oil and gas sector across upstream, mid-stream and downstream activities focusing on radiological protection, management of NORM, radioactive source control, transport of radioactive materials, training and environmental permit application development (focussing on Water Discharge Activity and Radioactive Substance Activity) and subsequent permit compliance.

L2 helps our Customers meet the oil and gas sector regulatory requirements from the environmental protection regulators (Environment Agency or Scottish Environmental Protection Agency), Health & Safety Executive, Office for Nuclear Regulation (for dangerous goods transport), Marine Maritime Organisation and COMAH Competent Authority.

We have experience in working UK government departments and agencies such as Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and Oil & Gas Authority (OGA).

Our services to these sectors is driven primarily by the use of radioactive materials, hence the need for advice on radiological protection, radioactive waste and the related environmental permits for radioactive substances.

In addition to Radioactive Substance Activity permits under EPR16, we also have extensive experience in developing EPR16 permit applications for Water Discharge Activity, Combustion Activity and Flood Risk Activity, together with the development of the BAT Cases/Assessments, Environmental Management Systems, Sampling/Monitoring Arrangements, Operating Techniques and the related audit of environmental protection compliance.
