L2 are recognised by Health & Safety Executive (HSE) in Great Britain under the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17) as a RPA Body. We also provide RPA Services for clients in Northern Ireland in accordance with the Ionising Radiations Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2017 (IRR(NI)17) regulated by the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI).

Our RPA advice is provided to protect workers, the public and the environment from the harmful effects of ionising radiation.
We provide advice to clients on the radiation aspects of projects including the development of engineering controls, shielding design, containment design, management controls (including the development of radiation protection documentation including Radiation Risk Assessments, Local Rules/Radiation Safety Procedures and Contingency/Emergency Plans), training, dose assessments, radiation monitoring, dosimetry and investigations.

Our work in radiation shielding design involves hand calculations and we make use of software modelling such as MicroShield®. We support clients to obtain HSE/HSENI issued Registration Certificates and Consent Certifications (including development of suitable Safety Assessment) required by IRR17/IRR(NI)17.
In addition to appointment as RPA by clients we are also appointment as Radioactive Waste Advisers (RWA) under EPR16/EARS18 to provide advice on clients who wish to apply for and utilise Radioactive Substance Activity (RSA) environmental permits.
The regulations that cover the carriage of radioactive materials specify that any undertaking involved in the carriage, or related packing, loading, filling, or unloading of radioactive materials (Class 7 dangerous goods) has a legal obligation to appoint a Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA).
L2 employ a number of Dangerous Goods Safety Advisers (DGSA) with extensive experience in Class 7 dangerous goods to provide advice to clients on the transport of radioactive materials and waste by road, rail, sea and air.
